Distance traveled: 252.8 km Cumulative distance: 2692 km Maximum Speed: 121 km/h Moving Average: 68 km/h Temperature range: -49 - 17.8 C (I think the thermometer was having a bad morning; pretty sure that is not correct) We had a day to kill around Port Hardy before our departure for Prince Rupert tomorrow. But we have a whole day to sit around on the boat tomorrow, so back on the bike today. Our plan was to visit some outlying communities around Port Hardy. But, not big rush; there isn't THAT far to go. We took our time dragging ourselves ourselves out of the rack and by the time we went downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast, they had all gone home for the day. But we were told we could get breakfast down at the Market Street Cafe, a ten minute walk. Ostensibly. It was probably fifteen but there are no lattes to be had in these parts. We walk up to the counter after eyeing the baked goods in the display case. Some items are on trays and others are wrapped in plasti...

Great photos posted from yesterday! Distance Traveled: 375.8 km Cumulative distance: 2439 km Maximum speed: 117 km/h Moving average: 77 km/h Temperature range: 15.2 - 20.3 C After I extinguished my various batteries last night, I was packing up my stuff, getting ready for bed. Nan was already snuggled in the sleeping bags, somehow managing to take two spots. I was dealing with panniers hanging open, trying to shove everything in without regard for packing efficiently - I could sort that out in the morning. I just couldn't quite get my pannier closed and so I needed to squish a bag of clothes (Nan and I each keep our clothes in heavy duty zip-loc bags, squish the air out, then seal them shut so that we can get more out of the limited space we have). Since the picnic table was filled with various jackets and pants and things, there wasn't room for me to lay down on the picnic table on top of a bag of clothes, so I laid the bag over the seat of the bike, being careful to ...

Rathtrevor Provincial Park Campground, near Parksville Distance traveled: 383.5 km Cumulative distance: 2063 km Maximum speed: 122 km/h Average speed: 63 km/h Tmerate range: 12.2 - 22.8 C Very little battery left, very little cell signal so not sure how far I'll get with this tonight. Certainly no pictures till tomorrow night. Up early this morning with the intent of catching the 9:00 a.m. ferry over from Tswassen to Schwartz Bay. My big brother Dan was up at the same time as us to make us a strong coffee before getting on the road at the planned time of 7:45 a.m. We organized our gear pretty fast; we each have our assigned tasks; and we were pretty much loaded except the tank bag by 7:35, so it looked good for a 7:45 departure. There were heavy clouds in the air and it was spitting slightly but nothing too threatening. We drank our coffees indoors and we were walking out right at 7:45 a.m. by which time, the rain had started to fall. A lot. It was actually 7:55 before we...
